If you’re not growing, you’re dying

“If you’re not growing, you’re dying.” Harsh words, I know. But they hold a deep truth.
I once met a business owner who seemed to have it all figured out. She told me, “I’m in a good place. Things are stable, and I don’t want to grow. I just want to keep things as they are.” I respected her honesty. After all, it’s important to pause and enjoy the rewards of hard work. But I couldn’t shake my concern.
“Stability is great,” I told her, “but if you stay in one place too long, it can turn into stagnation. Growth isn’t just about ambition, it’s about survival. If you’re not growing, you’re dying. Eventually, costs will catch up, and you’ll find yourself running just to stay in place, like a hamster on a wheel.”
That conversation stayed with her. The very next day, she called me back. “Let’s do it,” she said. “Let’s figure out how to grow—intentionally, sustainably.”
Together, we set out to transform her business. She began empowering her teams, streamlining processes, and laying the groundwork for scalability. Her vision expanded, and so did her company. Not long after, she received an acquisition offer from a publicly listed company which was a testament to everything she’d built. She accepted, stepping into a broader leadership role within a larger organization.
Five years later, I still look back on that journey with pride. Working alongside her, the MD and their leadership team remains one of my most rewarding coaching experiences. Watching them thrive, scale new heights, and reshape their industry fills me with joy. Their story is a powerful reminder that growth is not just a strategy, it’s a way of life!
